Swap out the 2-guard with a 1-guard and do the same thing again, but this time only go up about 1 inch below where you went up to with the 2-guard. This will give the sides and back of your hair a faded look. Clip the sides and back of your hair just like you did before, but this time only go up about 1 inch below the part.
Then, replace the 3-guard with a 2-guard. Keep doing this until you’ve worked your way from one side of your head around the back and to the other side. Now move the clippers over to the next section of hair and repeat.
When you get close to the part, curve the clippers out and away from your head so the hair at the top of your sides is a little longer than it is as the bottom.
Starting on one side of your head, run the clippers from the bottom of your hair to the top where the part is. When you’re finished, you should have a U-shaped part going around the sides and back of your head that dips down a little in the back. Continue this side part to the back of your head as well. Now repeat the same thing on the other side of your head. The point where the top of the comb extends off of your head is where you should bring the back part down to. Hold a comb against the back of your head vertically. Continue the side part around to the back of your head. If you don’t have clips, you can wet the top of your hair so it stays parted. Admittedly, this variant may well be low on the list of desired haircuts for the average boy or young man. The punk movement has spawned a variant of the rat-tail in which the person’s entire head is shaved with the exception of the eponymous tail. Fans of manga and anime may have noticed several of their favorite characters sporting rat-tails, which can be curled, straightened, braided, or fashioned into a dreadlock. It fell out of style in the 80s but has recently enjoyed a resurgence in popularity. It’s based around a tail-like, naturally hanging section of hair located at the back of the head. The rat-tail is the unexpected cross between a mullet and a ponytail. After a little experimentation, making a good pompadour will be easy. Holding a comb in one hand, use the other hand to push the hair forward, and at the same time, comb the hair at the front upward. Most importantly, there should be a dramatic line where the short hair ends and the long hair begins. The hair on the sides and back should be cut much shorter than the top. For young boys, the hair doesn’t have to be too long, and the shorter hair will produce a shorter, more subtle pompadour. How to get it: You’ll want to have your bangs at least eyebrow-length. However, boys who like a clean-cut appearance will love this fashionable style. In addition, boys who are involved with athletics might find the pompadour style difficult to keep. The pompadour requires some serious maintenance, so it’s not for everyone. It combines the disconnected undercut and the pompadour for a noticeable look.
